| Missing Trident Diver Found |
10/17/08
A diver who went missing in Sand Point has been found.
John Shannon was found by co-workers and family, Friday afternoon, walking back to a bunkhouse at the Trident Cannery. His boss, Enviro-Tech Diving, Inc. President Tim Jewell said he wasn't injured, but his mental state appeared to be "altered".
Shannon has returned to Seattle with his mother and brother-in-law.
Shannon sparked a city-wide search when he walked-off, Tuesday night, while he was performing tests on the docks. He had not been in the water at the time of his disappearance. Crews and volunteers began looking for Shannon, Wednesday morning, when they noticed he didn't return to his room.
Jewell said Shannon may have a mental condition that he didn't know about prior to hiring him.
Enviro-Tech is under contract for the rest of the month to do repairs and tests on Trident's docks. Shannon had been with the Stanwood, Washington-based company for only two days. He had been working as a merchant diver in Kodiak for the past ten years.

| Trident Diver Missing |
10/16/08
Local authorities in Sand Point have resumed the search for a diver who disappeared while doing contract work for a local cannery.
Co-workers say 32 year-old John Shannon was running tests on the docks at the Trident Cannery between 7:20 and 7:30 p.m., Tueasday night, when he told his supervisor that he was going to the restroom. He didn't return for the rest of the night. His co-workers went up to his room the next morning to find out that he didn't spend the night there. His supervisor, Carl Bryson says there was nothing wrong with Shannon before he disappeared.
Some reports say he was last seen walking toward Sand Point from the plant.
Crews consisted of mostly Trident workers began searching for Shannon later that morning. They went door-to-door to Sand Point residents throughout most of the night and searched the harbor and the airport. The search was called off around 10 p.m. Authorities gathered local volunteers at the Fire Hall, Thursday afternoon, to restart the search.
Shannon, who works for Washington State-based Envirotech, was under contract to do repairs and tests on Trident's docks for the rest of the month. He has been a harvest diver in Kodiak for the past 10 years. It's unclear if he lives in Kodiak because records show he has had a Portland, Oregon, address since 2005. He has one child and long-term girlfriend.
Shannon is described as a white male with dark hair with a goatee. He is 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs 210 pounds. If anyone as seen Shannon or know his whereabouts, they are asked to call the Sand Point Police Department at (907) 383-3700 or the Trident Office in Sand Point at (907) 383-4848.
